How are you?
I've been pretty busy in the few months (and almost an entire lockdown) since my last email. For a start, I wrote a book! This is the second one I've finished during the pandemic and both are a little different from what I normally write, in that they contain absolutely no apocalypses whatsoever.
I hope that's not too disappointing. If it is then I can at least promise the following tropes:
- 1980s nostalgia
- a haunted house
- children with weird powers
The second is currently with my agent and the first is just sitting there, waiting.
Ready to spring.
Like a coiled goat.
Anyway, one way or the other, both books will be published within the next year or so, and hopefully sooner.
What else? Well, in the short break between novels I've been working on a musical project, which has been great fun. More on this another time. I've also been writing some screenplay pilots with an old friend of mine, and we just sent our first (yikes!) to a film producer in LA. Collaborating like this has been hugely enjoyable and it's been a timely reminder of what I enjoy about writing. As you may know, I've been indulging in a fair bit of soul-searching over the past year or so (thanks for all your messages of support!) but I can safely say that I'm back on track and ready to go.
Which is another way of saying: you haven't seen the last of me yet.
Some things I have been enjoying of late:
- The Valerie Hart books by Saul Black (pen name of Glen Duncan)
- Public Service Broadcasting
- Rediscovering Icky Mettle by Archer's of Loaf on vinyl
- Modern Family...why have I waited so long?
Right, I'll be back in a few weeks with an update on a couple of other things. For now, take care and wherever you are, I hope you're safe and well.
Bye for now,
